Worst school ever, the school doesn’t know how to deal with fights or bullying and the teaching is bad I don’t recommend sending your child here it’s the worst place ever. It’s made me really depressed and anxious it’s such a horrible place. Just don’t send ur kids here. They will suffer and believe me no one understands how horrible it is unless u go there

Awful, awful, awful. Contrary to what you may hear, the school is anything but "good" and in fact has a poor reputation due to its roughness. As a former student, it comes as no shock. Originally desiring to go to a much better school (Fort Street High) I ended up stuck here instead and experienced the worst four years of my life. Students are loud, brash and disrespectful on public transport and within school grounds. Anti-intellectualism runs deep as the vast majority of students aren't motivated to participate in academic activities (e.g. debating, speaking competitions) so they seldom occur. Students constantly flout uniform rules and walk around in grey sweatpants and non-school T-shirts yet the punishment is very minimal and does nothing to alleviate the problem. The people who run this madhouse are also a major issue. Abysmal really. No school events, no sense of community...nothing really. Most teachers don't even teach but instead, spend entire class periods carrying on about "respect" whilst not once showing students any ounce of respect and of course you've got the teachers that do nothing but sit on their arses all period. It's all just pathetic and underwhelming really. The kids aren't bright and the students aren't bright. You can forget about school clubs also because they don't exist. But expect to see students blasting rap music in the hallways through Bluetooth speakers and even more students leaving campus during break periods to hang out with friends or some other nonsense. Expect limited opportunities for extremely academically gifted students to succeed so they instead transfer to better schools (Fort Street, Sydney Boys, Trinity Grammar etc) where their talents will actually be recognised. At Leichhardt, you're not valued unless you're popular and/or good at sports. Even the school elections are organised poorly— it's essentially just a popularity contest and they don't even try to make it fair. Students who have never participated in school life or even joined SRC are given captain and vice-captain positions (and unsurprisingly, they seldom show up to the actual SRC meetings) whereas if you're someone that has been actively participating since the beginning but isn't as popular, expect to get nothing out of it. It is well and truly the worst environment for academically-inclined and introverted/shy students for 2 main reasons:
1) Limited opportunities to succeed academically (since the strong anti-intellectualism culture will eventually drag you down)
2) Bullying
So to summarise, Leichhardt used to triumph over Balmain but things are changing now. As Balmain gradually tries to improve itself, Leichhardt continues to degrade and fall back into its old reputation. A reputation defined by drug use, violence and disrespect. For the love of all that is holy, please do not take your child here. Adolescence can be a tumultuous time and this place will only make that experience worse.
